What is the Small Works Gallery?
The Small Works Gallery at Gateway City Arts is a space with limited display surface located in the lobby of the main building. It is suitable to present small size works of art such as drawings, paintings, prints, and photography, or small sculptures, wall reliefs, mixed media, and craft objects.
Where is the Small Works Gallery?
The SWG is located in the main building of Gateway City Arts at 92 Race St. in Holyoke, Massachusetts. It is to the left of the Bistro (viewing from the street) and between Mark Landy Party Hall and Judd Paper Hall.
How can I apply to show my artwork?
Applications can be downloaded at gatewaycityarts.com/smallworksgallery or submit through the form on the website. The Artist must provide links and images of their artwork in order to be considered.
Who can apply to the Small Works Gallery?
Gateway City Arts does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. We do, however, reserve the right to select the artwork as we see fit to meet our quality and artistic standards as well as our curatorial plans. We accept all 2d works of art and small scale 3d works.
How long is the art on display?
Each display is up for 3 weeks with a 1 week turnover time. Selected artists will also be invited to participate in our online and in house retail gallery which will offer the art to the public beyond the actual scheduled exhibit.
Does Gateway City Arts take a commission?
Gateway City Arts will receive a 20% commission from any piece of art sold on the GCA property, or as a result of exposure at the GCA exhibit.
Are there any other costs associated with the exhibit?
GCA will share the cost of shipping, packaging, and marketing 50/50 with The Artist if applicable. If artwork is not collected within one week of the gallery end date there is a $25 storage fee per week.
How do I get my artwork there?
A GCA staff member must install or supervise the installation of the artwork. The Artist must provide related hardware and equipment, descriptions, and labels unless discussed in advance with GCA.
What if something happens to my artwork while at GCA?
The GCA property is a completely safe and secure place. In the event that any damage or theft does occur, GCA will review footage of security tapes as needed. The Artist must provide their own insurance where applicable. GCA is not responsible for any damage to the artwork caused by Artist, Artist personnel, or Acts of God. The Artist must treat the GCA property with respect and care. Any damage to the GCA property that is not a direct result of the installation of the artwork will result in a fine.
Who can view the artwork?
The SWG is open to the public during the hours of the Bistro (varies seasonally). Current hours will be listed on our website at gatewaycityarts.com/smallworksgallery. Per availability and interest, Gateway City Arts can schedule an opening reception.
